If McCain moves even a rhetorical inch on taxes, Norquist and many others on the right will go after him mercilessly. He just got the rightwing base in a happy frenzy with the Spectre pick; he doesn't dare alienate them now, IMHO.

But let's face facts, a McCain presidency couldn't retain the Bush tax cuts or implement tax policy of his own. At best he will shape Congressional tax bills through the veto pen.

I'm amazed that more people aren't focusing on what a hapless, powerless president McCain would be. His political clout would be LESS than what Bush has had since 2006.
