That's how I grew up, too. Shotgun weddings, they used to call them. And, no, I don't hear about them among the demo upper middle, upper class elites.

it's like they all use birth control....or maybe, given their birth rate, they don't have kids anymore. But i can't remember the last time i heard of someone's kids getting married cause the girl was pregnant.

That was the scenario for the middle class girls. For those with money, real money, the young woman would go to a home for unwed mothers and give the baby for adoption or they would be sent away so "something" could be done.

The something was an abortion as fashioned at that time.
