We are a nation at war and in many [ways] the reasons for war are fights over energy sources, which is nonsensical when you consider that domestically we have the supplies ready to go.

Anyone who denies that oil is a valid reason for fighting in Iraq, and the ME in general, is stupid. It certainly was one of many reasons.

Even the demons of the world, the Bush Administration, repeatedly emphasized the national security interest in protecting the region.

That is not to say that it was solely, or even predominantly, about oil. In fact, this is a totally simplistic view, to suggest that one issue like this is dominant in the underlying rationale.
