Gallup Poll: Obama extends lead over McCain

By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

The controversy over Sarah Palin isn't helping John McCain at all. Barack Obama for the first time is the choice of 50 percent of Americans in the latest Gallup Poll released Wednesday.

And Obama has an 8 percentage point lead, up from 6 on Tuesday.

The poll also points out that the number of undecided voters is going down -- and going over to Obama.

All of this is bad news for McCain, who has to hope that he will get some kind of post-convention bump once he gives his acceptance speech Thursday night.
