i think considering what has been heaped upon her family, she handled it with aplomb

and certainly would have been overkill to 'introduce' the future SIL....just his presence was enough to solidify family unity

I think the boyfriend's presence was a good touch. Shows that his relationship with the girl is serious and he's going to do the right thing, and that he is being treated like a member of the family. Seems like a very nice young man.
