>>Oy! The infection spreads. Seen clearly, this gender identity stuff is just the newest of bigotries. Why care about the gender of someone when it comes to power or office - or anything else of note or import. I'm for exceptional people in places of power. People of backbone and principle. People who talk about 'getting more women' into positions of power are focused on the wrong thing.<<

Stan -

I think you misunderstand me, but I wouldn't blame you. My statement could reasonably interpreted that way.

What I think is that seeing more women in high positions is a good thing as an effect, not as a cause. What I'm appreciating here is the fact that the country has come far enough that a woman can reach those positions.

I don't know how old you are, but I remember a time, not long ago at all, when the vast majority of the population wouldn't even have considered accepting a woman as the nominee for President or Vice President of a major political party. Now, most of us will. That's progress.

Does that mean I think Palin is a good choice for the position? Not even close. But I am pleased that most American voters will probably reject her for her positions and her lack of depth, as opposed to writing her off because of her sex.
