I assume you are running Vista-- if it is slower than your ten year old HP.
MSFT sure screwed the golden goose with Vista. Sadly, with Apple's boutique pricing, they're pounding away on the consumer harder than Dell and HP ever dreamed of.
My buddy from OZ, just picked up a new IMAC, and he just raves about how fast his porn sites load, not to mention the resolution
on the 24" IMAC screen. Rarely see him anymore, ggg.

knighty, that's the upgrade treadmill that your local monopoly computer mfr has inflicted on you.

i left them a long time ago, but you might be limited playing online poker at places that with retarded web program designers (perhaps all of them?).

preloaded xp/vista have a lost of unnecessary services up and running - be sure to disable them. one of the worst offenders is the pay for anti-virus software like norton or mcafee. they cripple your machine. delete them go with something for free like avg anti virus. it is light and is pretty good. make sure it is vista capable, though.
