Since McCain would be elected thanks to the political juice Palin has brought in, there is no way McCain could marginalize here and gete away with it, in terms of the party base.

Huh? Bush got elected by that constituency and he barely threw them a couple of bones. Even Lord Reagan, himself, offered up little in the way of bones. I don't see any reason to expect otherwise from McCain. Until this nomination, the Christian right was considered dead. This could as well be its last hurrah as its resurrection.
