Lane, in truth, I would imagine that this family reached a state of unity before Sarah accepted the nomination. I assume that everything was discussed--all the pros and cons--and each person had something of a vote as to whether to go for it.

Also being VEEP might be better for the family than being a governor. I can see her husband assuming more of the caretaking responsibilities for the children as I wouldn't expect him to be flying off the Alaska to fish or work on the slopes. A person trained in development of Down syndrome children would be hired just as was likely to be the case had they stayed in Alaska.
