The Palin selection for VP has really turned voters like my father off -- and my father is a conservative and very successful businessman who has voted for a Republican in most elections in his lifetime...he's 68 and he's run businesses and he was not overly excited about McCain...he told me he would have been somewhat reassured IF McCain had better plans for the economy and if McCain had the judgement to select an experienced running mate like Romney...For my father and some other conservative relatives it comes down to judgement and they have real concerns about McCain and his ability to make smart decisions...In the last 24 hours my father has told me that he will most likely support Obama (the stakes are high and the country clearly needs to change and my father says we must improve this country for the grandchildren and the next generation)...My mother, my aunt and an uncle are all in their late 60s -- they used to vote Republican most of the time but Bush's first term really upset them and they went with Kerry in 2004...this year they are all enthusiastically supporting Obama (and most of these relatives think the GOP has moved way too far to the right for them). I sense that McCain will be unable to win over many of the frustrated moderate Republicans and many of the crucial Independent Swing Voters.
