I think Obama is trying not to make the same mistakes that Kerry made - being a punching bag. People want a smart, thoughtful leader, but also one who can get tough when needed. I don't think Kerry understood that until this year.

I don't think people mind seeing the candidate bash each other on the issues - it's when it turns personal, or involves untrue smears, that people get disgusted.
