The US did our part and the Iraqi government is squandering the chance for real reconciliation.

I dont think that our positions on Iraq are actually all that far apart. I always felt that the surge should be attempted to give the Iraqi government one last effort to create a national reconciliation. I believe that we have at least given them the time and space to make that effort. We'll find out whether that has succeeded as our troops begin to withdraw. If it hasnt, I think the US should intervene to stop outright civil war, but beyond that we have done our part. Withdraw to the bases, and draw down the troops until we have a minimal footprint two to three years from now. If the Iraqi's want us out entirely, say goodbye.
