McCain has a weird problem: The base of his party hates him. He was moving towards them by embracing Bush as much as was possible without actually being in the same state as him. Now he's trying to move away from the base again using Palin to pander to them. So if he doesn't want to seem like an extremist, his extremist base will hate him...again. The base wants Palin/McCain or better yet Palin/Jesus. What's an extremist, flip-flopping old man supposed to do? Odd.
