Great post, not "blowhard" at all. I would add to it that the continuing deficit undermines everyone who holds their main assets in dollars, wealthy, middle class, and poor alike (although the wealthy tend to be able to be more mobile in where they hold their wealth).

…"If we destroy the rich, who will keep the economy, the jobs, going."…

First, I agree with your point that Obama's tax plan does not "destroy the rich". It may suck up some of their disposable income, but at a time when so many others are in real financial pain, it is a reasonably just way to increase revenue. And it is taking back only a fraction of the Bush giveaways over the past 8 years.

Second, I don't believe that the rich keep the economy going. Trickle-down is finally being exposed for the nonsense that it is. A marginally higher tax rate is not going to make building a business to become successful and get rich any less attractive.

Personally, I don't begrudge the rich their money. Let them buy cars and yachts and second, third and forth (or even 7!) homes - an island, if that is their desire. But, as for political involvement, I think money as free speech as an abomination in a Democracy. Money is the engine of corruption in our Democracy: so if taking some money from the rich causes them to hire fewer lobbyists or buy less political influence, then I'm all for it.
