One difference is that we know Edwards campaigned and raised funds despite the fact that he was having an ongoing affair and knew he had zero chance of getting the nomination when it came to light. Even a total left wing idiot savant like Warren Buffett said that there should be a class action suit brought against him for that. In the Palin case, we still don't know if she ever actually did have an affair and whether it would really matter anyway because it was in the past. That will be decided if it turns out to be true.
