passed on from a friend:

Last night's DAILY SHOW---------terrific bits on hypocrisy...e.g.
Bill O'Reilly commenting on the latest Palin family pregnancy.....said something like: "I think we all understand that this is a family matter
and in no way reflects upon the parents.....what we have is a teenage girl living in a world filled with sexual signals, a desire to fit in, a girl still finding her way in a world with no road map.....it happens.....and we should keep our noses out of it and realize this is just one more problem society forces upon the family"........or words to that effect.

HOWEVER, the DAILY SHOW ARCHIVE then showed a clip of the same O'Reilly months before speaking on the JAIMIE SPEARS PREGNANCY............"If there is anyone to blame here it is the PARENTS.............Ultimately and ALWAYS it is the parents fault for not teaching their children the proper self-discipline and the proper values"...............

Naturally, there were several other YES/NO clips from other prominent GOPers........Karl Rove on Palin's credentials....as mayor of a city of
7500 and governor of a state w/600,000 for a total of less than 2 years...
"SPARKLING CREDENTIALS".............TOTALLY PREPARED.........but then came that clip from a few days earlier when Tim Kaine, the governor of Virginia was being mentioned as a possible Obama choice for veep........"What has he done? Nothing that merits respect. Governor of Virginia for three years and before that Mayor of Richmond, the 115th largest city in America.....he's never had to deal with complex issues, with a huge budget, and of course, never with foreign affairs....TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED!"

Then a McCain campaign aide/female aide/going on about how every inquiry about Palin was really sexism at work, an insult to women, etc..........
followed by her months before saying HILLARY WAS FAIR GAME, EVERY ASPECT OF HER LIFE AND CAREER AND IT WAS THE HEIGHT OF CHUTZPAH (SP) FOR ANYONE TO CLAIM SHE WAS BEING A VICTIM OF SEXISM...........

But the topper was PALIN HERSELF claiming that Hillary was fair game and to say the "boys are ganging up on her" was an attempt to claim sexism when nothing was further from the truth..........

INCIDENTALLY, I hear that Palin has filed A COMPLAINT AGAINST HERSELF IN THE MATTER OF TROOPERGATE IN ALASKA...........why? Well, she is trying to use some obscure regulation that says in the matter of ethics investigations concerning STATE EMPLOYEES, guess who, gets to pick the investigating committee? Right............the governor! She intends to investigate herself and that will then cause the legislative investigation to shut down, close up shop, and go away!

A real piece of work...............like Doc Dadeeka in CATCH 22 who sought a medical exemption from duty in WW2 on the basis that he had "given himself a thorough physical and found himself unfit for duty."

"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless,
whether the mad destruction is brought under the name of totalitarianism
or the holy name of liberty and democracy?"
-- Mahatma Gandhi

like father like son? Keating's son being strongly associated with recent failure of a thrift brings back memories:

Lincoln Savings and Loan

The Lincoln Savings led to the Keating Five political scandal, in which five U.S. senators were implicated in an influence-peddling scheme. It was named for Charles Keating, who headed Lincoln saving and made $300,000 as political contributions to them in the 1980s. Three of those senators - Alan Cranston, Don Riegle, and Dennis DeConcini - found their political careers cut short as a result. Two others - John Glenn and John McCain - were rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising "poor judgment" for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating.

It seems strange to me that no one has brought up this previous fiasco relating to McCains judgement when we are facing yet another financial crisis. Fact is McCain has has track record of poor judgement. Someone with more moral character might have been so ashamed of contributing to the loss of billions of dollars that they might have resigned from government.

KT,

I would be curious to know which books they were.

I actually don't have much of a problem with limiting the ability of people to access to certain books. I have a problem with banning them totally.

In other words, I would be highly in favor of removing all the books from my local library that teach people how to make mustard gas or use readily available items for destructive purposes. However, they should be available in some capacity for intellectual purposes and as a matter of freedom.

I think there is a difference between banning books and making them more difficult to obtain.
