Yes, it is not the only issue, just one I rank of the first order. I could forgive the ID blunder on McCain's part, because I understand the social basis of it, even though I think it is important to combat the issue. On the related front of climate science, McCain does support good science, even at the cost of displeasing some of his base support. Unfortunately, he picked a running mate out to lunch on both topics, and for her it is actual belief, not political expediency.

What this tells me is that McCain does not actually understand the fundamental significance of science to our country's long term health in this world, especially given the rising powers of Asia.
