In my critical risk assessment - which is very much operative, thank you very much - there is always a chance that what sounds like blather today could become reality tomorrow.

That's where I am with this.
I understand Lane's risk assessment point, but at the same time, the particular risk changes the level at which I consider it unacceptable.

It doesn't bother me at all to put a nickel in a slot machine, knowing my odds are 1000 to 1 (or whatever they are), but when I consider the potential outcomes of Palin as president, even though the risk is minimal, it is just not one I am willing to take, especially since I am not thrilled with McCain to start with as a candidate. The cost is too great, where the nickel matters not at all.
