petekboy - it all boils down on how you want to live and under which system.

Stratfor analysis is skewed and has too many flaws to mention, except his take on France Germany and Italy, as they think that nothing will not happen to them and would like to appease Russia

There are many tools to the disposal of those countries including the US which can bring the Russian economy to its knees and bring about the removal of the present gang in power and it will little help if Russia will arm Iran.

In Medevdev 5 points Russia basically gave an ultimatum to the Western World and basically said – We do not want to be part of the Western Culture Hegemony – We want to be the OLD USSR aggressive imperialistic power with their policies and WE WANT the world to accept what ever is to Russian best interests or other wise f&^%k you – we now have the military might and nukes. We want to stay in the 19 /20 century world power strugle environment

Everything else is BS. Russia declaration is basically a declaration of war and I hope that you are experienced enough to understand that what Medvedev said between the lines.... in Russian - Russia wants to choose its friends and protectorates, pillage those countries and the world should keep shut whatever they do. Georgia was a pre-play of what they want to do. The whole BS with S. Ossetia is more and more loosing its propaganda meaning.

They choose Georgia to stop the development of the export corridor of the raw materials from the Caspian Basin and Central Asia - Russia want to control it all and also tax it like any other Mafia organization

As to Moldova the reasons for the meetings were very obvious – preparation for annexation to Russia of those teritories, and by this to flank out Ukraine and threaten Romania which just joined the EU.

One of the easiest solutions to stop Russia in their track aside form economic isolation is lowering the price of energy and this could be done if there is cooperation between the world nations.

Aside from that I would not eliminate the military option the only language Russia understand very well – it would be enough to lift the agreements related to the Black Sea and let an international marine power travel trough the Bosporus into the Black Sea – Russia will cave in IMHO.

Other solution are of stating covert operation within Russia itself east of the Volga and Urals in the same way that Russia has done it for ages around the world, There are more than needed disfranchised people / nations whose natural resources are pillaged by the Russian with nothing in return to the local population. Yakutia is a prime example, as are the Volga Tatars and the list goes on.

petekoby - it seems and I hope it is true that Russia is slightly backing down. I am not sure if everything they promised to the EU will come to fruition but I think that the high powered delegation made clear to Russia that there are other means than plain military means to make Russian economy suffer.

So it may be and it is very important to the EU that they can show the world that they were able to gain a settlement. It is as important to the EU as it is to Russia - gaining legitimacy in the world

if things will pan out as expected I thing the EUR will rally
