Gibson is an old pro who knows he won't get away with a softball interview, if he is the only major neutral outlet to get a crack at Palin with all the questions swirling around right now.

You mean like the softball one that Steve Kroft of 60-minutes gave to Obama-Biden last weekend.

Dale, re: "Gibson is an old pro who knows he won't get away with a softball interview, if he is the only major neutral outlet to get a crack at Palin with all the questions swirling around right now."

I have to disagree. McCain knew what he was doing in choosing Gibson. Gibson is about as red state as you can get and still have people thinking you're middle of the road.

His body language and facial expressions are there for everyone to read. The questions may look impartial but just listen to his emphasis and the way he reacts to the answers and you'll see that he registers skepticism and disapproval quite openly when he gets an answer he doesn't like. All to often those answers are ones that challenge the Bush policies.

I stopped watching ABC news long before he and Stephan.. moderated the Democratic primary debate and I don't think his sustained attack on Obama in that debate was an accident. He has been a strong supporter of the "surge," and, I believe, the war in Iraq, and he is conservative. Unlike Tim Russert, I don't think he learned enough to change his views.

If he really puts her through her paces I'll be amazed. Ed

PS, And if she gets to "preview" the questions (will she?) then what will it prove except that she can "learn" someone else's answer and parrot it.
