Meghan Stapleton, an Auburn native, knows a lot. She served as Palin's first gubernatorial press secretary, and could well play a role in Palin's vice presidential campaign.

Friday, Stapleton, a former TV news anchor in Anchorage, was fielding calls from fellow reporters from all over the U.S., as well as urgent requests from the McCain campaign.

"They (the McCain campaign) just called and said, 'Hey, can you write a summary statement on the governor's accomplishments?' " Stapleton said. "They don't' really have anybody up here to do this."
