This failure is of two main types: the failure to quantify the true costs of resource extraction and the true costs of waste creation.

I have no argument with that. I'm suggesting that the cost of hauling the dishwasher back to the manufacturer is part of the cost and that there are likely more cost effective ways of implementing the incentive.

The more natural solution is usually both more effective and more cost effective. Returning the product to the manufacturer for disposal is exceedingly clumsy.
