Michael, I think that's very simplistic.

McCain/Palin aren't taking off because of the hate attacks against them; they're taking off because the American people have had their first REAL looks at the two candidates.

Remember, until two weeks ago, the people following the election were the die-hards, almost all of whom are highly committed one way or the other. But with the conventions, the candidates get exposure to the masses, and that is likely what's causing the turnaround.

Most people, I think, find Obama to be totally likeable -- I certainly do. But the extremism scares the daylights out of them. Combine with that the added excitement of the McCain ticket due to Palin.

Now, the extreme left (and more importantly, the liberal media) may have shot themselves in the foot with their Palin-bashing, but I don't think this kind of move is happening without the involvement of some people who simply weren't involved in the process earlier on.

Palin is a star, there is no doubt about that -- just as Obama has been deemed a "star" for the last two years, Palin clearly is in the same category, and she has taken away the focus on Obama.

Now that is just plain stupid. McCain is getting his convention bounce coupled with the Palin nod. You feed right into the right's drama with these comments.
