Since my mind is made up, I have little interest in a process that is so shallow and stupid, the way the pols and reporters play it out every four years. It's a reminder why our politics are so rotten between elections - because we take an important choice and turn it into something worse than a reality TV farce.

I can't change that myself but like the reality TV shows, I don't have to tune in either. I already know where to go vote in November.

Terrific post Ed and once again you defined for me what I am feeling..although I could not put my finger on what that was, except depressed..

Undoubtedly... McCain is going to win.The mentality of the electorate has changed and it's disheartening. Issues are no longer the issue... .. size D bras are and distorted facts like the issue with the flags that the Democrats supposedly discarded and they miraculously came into McCain's hands.

I hope that you are right in your last sentence. Otherwise I am like Dale....Tired of all the machinations and lies.

What was working for Obama has stopped working and he will have to abandon the "safe" strategy

I don't think it's stopped working, I think it's that the Rove/Schmidt people have pulled off a PR stunt that is remarkable in its audacity and short term effectiveness. This Palin thing has indeed fired up their base, and at the right time--remember the line, "You don't start a marketing campaign until after Labor Day." This is the biggest blitz since the '02 we gotta take out Iraq blitz prior to the '02 election, and has so far set the Obama campaign back on its heels just as effectively as that fall surprise set Congressional Democrats back on their heels.

When you hear people talking about flipping the R ticket so that Palin is on top and McCain is the VP candidate, you things are completely wacko. And the "pros" over at the other thread can't stop snickering and chortling over what a genius this person is who they had barely heard of two weeks ago.

It is ... fascinating.
