The problem is that the "true" conservatives are aligned with a group (Christian right), which I can no longer align myself with.

I see myself day after day agreeing more and more with the Democratic principles and ideals. The fact that the Dems have an intelligent, worldly, principled man heading the party is reason more this go-around to vote Democratic for the first time in my life. This is especially true after this total embarassment of a President of the past 8 years. I WANT the President to be smarter than me. I would think by default everybody would want that, but in this country it's opposite for some reason and we've paid the price for it big time.

These beliefs began at my days at Berkeley, but really accelerated after I moved to New York at age 25 and began to travel the world and meet people of many different cultures.

Had I still been living in my hometown in the middle of nowhere today, I could see myself driving around with a McCain/Palin bumper sticker and applauding to vitriole.
