Ed, while I have some sympathy for the argument you are making and have made similar ones here, I think we may all be jumping the gun just a bit. McCain got a bounce and the bounce appears to have canceled out Obama's bounce from the Dem convention.

That sounds like pretty standard fare for this point in presidential elections. Now begins the serious race.

I have no problem with the strategy you outline save I think it runs counter to Obama's genetic code. He's not going to do it. His surrogates are going to have to pick up the ball, the campaign's many other voices, etc.

But, in my view, what Obama can do it sharpen his message. Very concrete, short, simple statements: vote for me and x will happen or y will not happen. With force.

I don't know whether he or the Dems can do it. As Paul Begala said the other night in an extremely quotable quote, I come from the party with 12 point plans and 3 point losses. As he was making this same point.
