I really think it's more complicated than that.

Alaska is at the extreme in climate,rugged wilderness ect.and sparse population.

Human life exists there on a very slim thread of existence.

You could easily argue it is one of the few places in the US that deserves subsidy in some manner.

I'm just saying it's a very special situation and I think unfair to compare to civilization elsewhere.

Alaska is still #1 in per capita PORK

Per capita pork US = $52
Alaska = $506
