We finally agree on something. Drilling in the US won't accomplish much, and Nuclear cuts both ways. Obama is young and modern, more willing to embrace new ideas quickly. McCain is just the opposite...Remember we've been moving BACKWARDS since Nov 2000.

<If we embarked on a serious energy independence plan of drilling, wind, solar, NG, alterative fuels etc we would stop sending 70% of our trade deficit overseas and create so many new jobs in this country as well as new tax revenue (without raising taxes) we'd be back ontrack in no time. >

That's right out of one of Jimmy Carters speeches. Republicans rolled back all his alternative energy and mandates... too bad. Boy, did republicans piss on him too... that was pretty sick; blaming him for the energy crisis and related stagflationary economy.

Boy... he must just think back on this portion and say... W
OW, who would of thunk how crazy our country would get:

"In a nation that was proud of hard work, strong families, close-knit communities, and our faith in God, too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption. Human identity is no longer defined by what one does, but by what one owns. But we’ve discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning. We’ve learned that piling up material goods cannot fill the emptiness of lives which have no confidence or purpose."

Yep, "economic growth".... a virtual religion. How dare he try to take away our SUV's!!

You see this a lot today too:

"You see every extreme position defended to the last vote, almost to the last breath by one unyielding group or another. You often see a balanced and a fair approach that demands sacrifice, a little sacrifice from everyone, abandoned like an orphan without support and without friends."

Smart dude.

This country is self destructing due to ...

The fundamental problem is that the country is not working together to solve common problems and then leaving the rest to the people. Instead, beginning with Reagan, the country is encouraged to insist on everything being treated as individuals. This is the same problem that lead to the same types of problems about 1900. The very rich like it when everyone else acts as powerless individuals.
