I think you may be on to something here VP: "Having said that, a major new discovery could turn things virtually overnight. So could a number of takeovers, especially if they come from off shore nations who need to lock in sources and prices for their raw material requirements." Personally I believe the Bric economies and other emerging nations, will continue to grow enough to put pressure on commodity prices. Right now the N.A. markets certainly do not believe that. I think two things will change that, one slow accumulation of data showing emerging market growth and forcing a revision of the outlook. The second will be continued acquisition, or rather, strategic securing of future supply of commodities by these countries, particularly China, that will reinforce the message that mine production has not grown fast enough to meet demand. A major discovery won't do a thing. There is already company that found approx 20,000,000 ounces of easy to recover, near surface gold and it just got munched by crooks in the senior golds.
