Were you harmed by it? Harmed? No, not really. Discomfited, at worst. But I was definitely influenced by it. Ironically my most important lessons were a far cry from what I have heard advocated by you and others as the intended benefit. My best friend in grammar school was Jewish. My experience with those Bible readings was probably a major contributor to my subsequent engagement in the civil rights movement and a minor factor in my subsequent rejection of religion. I did, however, learn that there was such a thing as the Bible. My religious training was from catechism, not the Bible. So it accomplished one of its objectives, a pyrrhic victory, as it turns out. <g>
