I also think a reasonable group of adults could come up with something along this line that was inoffensive and non-threatening to anyone's particular faith or lack of faith.

I have yet to meet very many reasonable people. I can just imagine the reaction of the Evangelicals to quotes from Islam or Hinduism.

It would be a disaster.

I think your sentiment is lovely, but I think this would be hellacious in practice- and would convince even more parents that the schools are all about eroding their faith. Where many faiths are taught with "equality" parents often feel their own personal faith is being minimized. That's just the way it is- and why comparative religion classes are so frightening for many people.
