I do not believe those statistics at all but even 1% is scary. It reminds me of when the "Moral Majority" tried to claim huge numbers of followers and it turned out that their following was actually a tiny number of right wing extremists.

It is so hard to believe that so many people in the USA think the world was created about 6,000 years ago; perhaps that is why bumblers like Bush can get into office. Even many third world people are more aware than that, despite our so-called superior education.
