The most important way to deal with the behavior problems is to find what interests them, and steer them that way. Many times the disruptive kids are artistic, or have interests outside the typical school curriculum- for example they are interested in cars, or computers.

I don't know if the insistence that all kids learn an invariant core of subject matter is such a great idea. I know some Educators look at proposed changes, to a more tailored and (maybe) vocational approach as a betrayal of their duty to produce citizens, prepared to function in a 21st century democracy.
