Tenchu, It is elected in the sense that the elected leaders get to appoint the self-perpetuating bureaucrats. I doubt Cubans, North Koreans, or even Venezuelans have that "power" ... You are right about Cuba and North Korea. With Venezuela, it is a close call. BTW, I am not talking about individual European countries, that are members of EU. They are all find democratic countries. i am talking about EU administration, such as European Commission - all powerful, self perpetuating bureaucrats - not much different from the socialist ruling elites you spoke of in your post. The elected European Parliament is nearly impotent and powerless. Joe
