I think they will be calling him Hussein Osama.

I rarely call Shrub "Chimp". It's an insult to Bonzo.

"Calling a President (from the Democratic Party) an idiot, or terms suggesting low intelligence" would probably be a lie. Our problem is that our candidates have been too smart. They are, like, Elite, eh?

>>More than one person on SI have referred to President Bush as "Chimp". Don't you agree that such a nickname would be even more inappropriate if we have a Democratic President? Calling a President (from the Democratic Party) an idiot, or terms suggesting low intelligence might be viewed as very insensitive as well. A political opponent might be wise to avoid such words or phrases. <<

I'm not sure what one thing has to do with the other. Nor do I see how calling a Democratic President "chimp" would be more insulting to him or her than it was to Bush. Unless you mean that comparing the Democrat to Bush would be more insulting than comparing him to a chimp.

And what do words suggesting low intelligence have to do with the timeworn phrase "putting lipstick on a pig," when such words are used to refer to pretending old policies are new ones?

"would be even more inappropriate"

Insults are always inappropriate, that's why people use them. They want to be rude. That's why some people on SI insist on calling Obama a "boy". Really- they do- search for it.

So who cares?

There will be people on both sides who want to call names. The lipstick on a pig thing, though, was clearly not aimed at Palin. I've heard it before, before Ms. Palin's ascendancy, and it's a perfectly good saying. Ms. Palin doesn't "own" the word lipstick, you know, nor is she particularly piggy (though I guess if her supporters want to think that if you talk about a pig it must squeal like a Palin, I'm ok with them thinking they are electing the next Vice Pig)- even if she does like to compare herself to pitbulls with make up on. I think it would be stupid to apologize for something the republicans confabulated in to an insult. If my opponent is trying to exploit every fantastical mistake I might make, the worst thing I can do is pretend his fantasies are reality. IMO
