Whether he intended it as a slur or not (and I do think it was a calculated move, given that Biden also made a lipstick remark the same day), the statement reflects poorly on Obama's judgment.

Either he intended the remark as a slur, which of itself lays lie his "rise above the fray" campaign rhetoric, or

He was clueless to the way the remark would be perceived.

Either way, it reflects poorly on the young lad.
