We are at different places on this one. The nation as a whole has such a huge problem with education is impoverished areas and so much at stake, as a nation, in doing it well, that the federal government either has to address it or we all live with the consequences of large numbers of badly educated adults.

There are a lot of important issues. But I see a financial tsunami on the horizon. Wait until FIDC is broke. The fed govt is in no position to add programs.

Many businesses and local and state govts institute freezes when budgets are out of whack. That is what is needed at the fed level. They have to institute a moratorium on new spending.

Education is one area that local and state govts already run programs. Making them dependent on fed money at this point seems like a huge mistake. And, I do not see feds doing such a good job with their critical responsibilities that I want them taking on local education.
