Maybe it's fair to equate non religious families with dysfunctional families in that there is no love in the home. Mostly fighting and sometimes drugs and alcohol are involved.

I wouldn't automatically equate non-religious families with dysfunctional families. This implies causality where there is no causality. Non-religious families are just non-religious families. They can and do lead productive lives and raise fabulous kids outside a religious framework.
