Imo part of the problem, and a reason why the last 8 years have been so lousy, is the tendency of people to look at the two parties and conclude that they are pretty much the same. You see this a lot in the media, which rather than doing a little investigating and discovering the truth, simply present a surrogate from each party, let them have their say, and leave it at that, without bothering to address the veracity of their statements. There is such a thing as a lie. And it is reprehensible to repeatedly lie for political advantage. This is not to say that both sides do not pander ... but there is a difference between appearing before AIPAC and declaring your commitment to Israel, and accusing your opponent of wanting to teach sex to 5 year olds.
