If there are any such traditional societies where same sex marriage was acceptable, tell me what they are. I've never heard of them.

The ancient Greeks, Romans, and other pre-Christian European and mideastern societies didn't have gay marriage (barring a few crazed Roman emporers - one of whom married a horse). Neither did modern or ancient Indian or Chinese, Japanese, or other Asian societies practice same sex marriage. I'm unaware of it in any traditional AFrican society. The only thing close to it is the berdache custom in native American societies - there effeminate gay males were considered women. I think they may have married (as women) but I'm not sure.

In addition in this country, marriage in general was not a big thing until the 20th century. In fact the tax laws were changed around the turn of the century to encourage marriage because it believed too many single men were contributing to crime problems in the country.

Hmm, I'm interested in history and genealogy and never heard of that. My ancestors all practiced marriage and raised big traditional two parent families throughout the 1700's and 1800's. From all I've read that was the normal situation.

Tax laws at the turn of the century were changed to favor marriage? I don't know what you're talking about. There was no income tax then. The only taxes most people paid were property taxes.
