I don't know if either of the VP nominations will be decisive or not, but McCain's choice sure didn't hurt his chances any.

It cost him some votes among fence-sitting independents I know personally, people who found Palin just too, too much. I don't know how that nets out but I do know it was decisive against him for some.

As I've said before, I think the nomination of Palin was a great tactical move. But such a pick needs to be strategic, not tactical.

It's possible that within the compressed context of the next two months, the McCain camp may be able to keep Palin from making serious mistakes on the campaign trail, like not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is, or to keep her from being formally charged with ethics violations in Alaska.

But I'm guessing they won't be able to do that.
