Then do you think we should have left the Taliban in charge in Afghanistan and allowed Osama to go on living in his house in Kandahar as long as the Taliban said okay? I think we'd still be begging the Taliban to extradite Osama and the other co-conspirators while the world laughed and tens of thousands of jihadis continued to stream into Afghanistan for training. you know what a trillion dollars in high tech intelligence and quick Isreali type strikes and diplomacy to try and get our allies on board could yield?? We don't have Israel's intelligence and covert abilities. In fact, I suspect its illegal to send Americans around the world covertly killing people like Israelis do. are you aware what it takes for them to strike US?? They have no missiles or anything... As long as we have pretty much open borders all they have to do is get into the country. And its pretty easy to do from any direction ... walk across the border, land a small boat, come in on a tourist visa and stay as long as you want. ... we need to have friends to build intelligenc networks. We DONT need to piss people off and start full scales wars. Even at the height of conflict between the US and Germany and France over the Iraq war (the Chirac days), European nations were actively cooperating with us on intelligence matters. The Bush administration formed a coalition of nations to act together against nuclear proliferation - the Proliferation Security Initiative. It is that effort that caught the Libyan nuclear program. European nations are following our lead on dealing with the Iranian proliferation threat too. NATO countries have troops in Afghanistan and in accord with us on opposing Russian aggression in Georgia and potentially elsewhere.
