This is embarrassing. The twit didn't know about the Bush doctrine....the idea of pre-emptive strike. There is something about the way she talks......its like she's memorized stuff and looping it back out to the world.

By Greg Sargent - September 11, 2008, 7:52PM

Forget war with Russia. The real news from Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin is this stretch, where she is clearly clueless about what the Bush Doctrine is...

"that for the first two years he could NOT EVEN PROPOSE SDI "

Pure nonsense.

Take it up with Weinberger; he's the one who made the point that we were too weakened to pursue SDI until the military buildup had been put to bed.

But there was, in fact, more to it. Reagan believed that you always negotiate from a position of strength, and he was right. The overall strategy for winning the Cold War was that Reagan saw the USSR could be brought down by a military buildup. SDI was once piece of it, which Reagan had dreamed of since the 60s.

So, there was more to it than I mentioned in the post, but the overall strategy required the basic buildup before he could move forward with SDI.
