highways are heavily subsidized, You nailed one of my pet peeves.. We have so much truck traffic on the Quebec City to Windsor Corridor that the roads are always falling apart.. Get the freight back on the rails and the seaway.. An acquaintance likened it to the truck/highway system being a giant warehouse for JIT inventory ... Rail improvement would also lead to improved passenger and higher speed trains.. win win win all around except for trucking I guess...
