That is how I always saw it. Both MacNamara and Colin Powell had the stature to mitigate a lot of the human suffering the two senseless wars in Viet Nam and Iraq caused.

But it would have required them to spend some of the currency of that stature. Neither of them was willing to do that even a little, to prevent the suffering of millions.

MacNamara apologized in his old age. Too late Mac! Powell has yet to apologize and even got angry when his chief of staff started spilling the beans. So Powell in my mind is a paper hero.

I do not understand that type of selfishness! I know Plato, Socrates, Bertrand Russel, Tolstoy and Abraham Maslow would never have behaved like that!!

Being kind and generous and protecting the "tribe" is what makes us valid humans. Those who live in the world of selfish greed are less valid in the world of consciousness than a plant.
