re: The you missed the Nixon Doctrine, Carter Doctrine (protect ME oil supplies), Reagan Doctrine (USSR rollback), Bush Sr. on the New World Order, and the Clinton Doctrine on humanitarian interventions in the Balkans.

Is it fair to lump them together - as 'Doctrines' - as if all Doctrines are equally self-destructive?

Oh, I know about all those, but people didn't commonly TALK about them as doctrines. Maybe you have a different view because of your experience.

The Eisenhower Doctrine was discussed on the radio all the time. It's one of those things I remember from when I was a kid, like "There was a dogfight over North Korea yesterday. Two MIGS were shot down." I didn't know what a dogfight or a MIG was, but I remember the Eisenhower Doctrine.
