As of 11:55 AM ET 9/12/08
Visa (NYSE: V) opened at $67.41. So far today, the stock has hit a low of $67.05 and a high of $67.73. V is now trading at $67.57, down $1.47 (-2.13%). Over the last 52 weeks the stock has ranged from a low of $55.00 to a high of $89.84. V shares are trading lower with other credit card companies this morning after SpendingPulse reported that U.S. retail sales excluding cars rose 0.4 percent in August, down from a 1.0 percent gain in July. The news has investors worried that a weak economic environment could lead to weak consumer spending through the remainder of 2008. Technical indicators for the stock are neutral and S&P gives V a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold ranking. If you are looking for a hedged play on V the stock seems like it could be a candidate for an October out-of-the-money bear-call credit spread above the 80 range.
