Yea I think your read is pretty accurate. It's sad though given the problems we have that the parties are still fighting for control vs solving problems. But that's human nature.

we never have any real change, and anyone waiting for it is fooling themselves imo. the system as it is configured will not possibly allow for it. it is set up to serve its purpose which is all about protecting those in power from any real threats.
