Sharon Begley is an excellent science writer who has been tracking the advances in neuroscience, many of which grew out of the annual conference of the world's greatest neuroscientists meeting with the Dalai Lama. It is a wonderful read (or listen--mildly condensced on CD). The Dalai Lama knows an incredible amount about the human brain. His monks, who have meditated for upwards of 1000's of hours, have developed mental skills that amaze western scientists. We are learning a great deal from them and none of it has to do with religion. books.google.com
