Also applies now. Maybe not quite as manageable but "quite manageable" would still be correct.


Today the European Union has surpassed us as an economy


The European Union isn't one economy. Its a trade block. It isn't one country, it doesn't have once currency etc. If you look at the Euro Zone, the US's economy is bigger. If you insist on counting the EU, well NAFTA's economy is bigger, and the US's economy is larger per capita.

and the Chinese are gaining on us fast

They are still far behind, and light years behind us on a per capita basis.

Our debt has grown tremendously to the point that we spend as much on "interest" on our debt as we spend on our Defense.

No it hasn't. And we've hard higher debt compared to our economy before.
